About Us

Welcome to Mayo Elementary School … Home of the Fabulous Falcons!

Mayo Elementary School (MES) is a Title I school in northern Spartanburg County in Spartanburg School District Two. Located approximately six miles from Interstate 85, MES is one of the smallest of nine elementary schools in a rapidly growing district. Mayo, South Carolina is a small rural community with approximately 1,842 residents. Many of our students live in outlying areas of Chesnee, but still reside within our attendance area.

Mayo School opened in 1915 as a first through twelfth grade facility. The school was reorganized in 1953 due to the transfer of Mayo High School students to Chesnee High School. After this reorganization, our building was renamed Mayo Elementary School. A new facility opened with 21 classes and a media center in January of 1981. With the addition of a kindergarten classroom, a gymnasium, an art room, and a music room in 1995, the total square footage of the building is approximately 45,614 sq. ft.

MES is focused on making the most of our small, yet "close knit," school atmosphere. Parents provide strong support to our school through their involvement in programs and activities, such as Open House, School Improvement Council, PTO, Terrific Kid programs, Literacy Night, and Math and Science Fun Night. We welcome parent engagement as a way to strengthen home and school communications and it is our goal to include parents in every aspect of their child's education. In an effort to increase our communication with parents, we have increased our social media presence through Facebook, Remind 101, our own MES App and Twitter. Our school webpage, social media, School Messenger System, and Parent Portal facilitate the sharing of information with students and parents.
